EFC FARMS EXHIBIT OPENS AT GOLISANO CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF NAPLES

EFC FARMS EXHIBIT OPENS AT GOLISANO CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF NAPLES

CMON creates brand-new farming exhibit space!

NAPLES, Florida (June 12, 2025) – Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples (CMON) announces the opening of an entirely new exhibit, EFC Farms, in partnership with EFC Farms and U.S. Sugar. In this brand-new exhibit, children will be introduced to different types of farming, plants that are locally grown in Southwest Florida, beekeeping, and so much more!

Created in partnership with EFC Farms in Fort Myers, which stands for Earth, Family, Community, this exhibit will highlight the farming practice of aquaponics and give children the opportunity to pretend they are the farmer planting into their aquaponic tubes. Children will be able to measure their height compared to different plants and farm animals, explore a bee box and try to find the queen bee on a honey panel, and even climb inside a giant chicken coop to sort eggs!

“CMON is excited to launch a new kind of exhibit for the museum,” said CEO Jonathan Foerster. “While still providing great opportunity for imaginative play for kids of all ages, the EFC Farms exhibit also provides fun ways to explore elementary school science curriculum and inspire career curiosity in our 3rd through 5th grade visitors. We are thrilled to be able to partner with EFC Farms owners David and Dr. Alise Bartley. Their leadership made this project possible. And we are grateful to U.S. Sugar for seeing an opportunity to help inspire the farmers of tomorrow at CMON.”

CMON also partnered with U.S. Sugar to help bring a specific focus on career curiosity and agricultural production. As one of the largest food producers in Florida, U.S. Sugar’s expertise helped build a section of the exhibit where

families can learn about soil and seeds, the various fruits, vegetables, livestock, and seafood grown in our region, as well as a variety of cool jobs that support plants and animals.

“Public education is the key to understanding where our food comes from and how Florida farmers play an integral role in our nation’s food supply,” said Ryan Duffy, U.S. Sugar Senior Director for Corporate Communications. “U.S. Sugar is proud to offer Southwest Florida students an opportunity to learn and understand how important agriculture is not only to our region’s economy, but also the broader ecosystem.”

Join CMON staff to celebrate the official Grand Opening and ribbon cutting at the museum on Monday, June 16 at 1:00 p.m. and enjoy an afternoon snack, enter to win fun prizes, and of course – play together as a family in the fresh new farm space! All included with admission.

Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples receives $10,000 grant from Suncoast Credit Union Foundation to support Discovery Night program

Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples receives $10,000 grant from Suncoast Credit Union Foundation to support Discovery Night program

NAPLES, Florida (December 16, 2024) – Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples (CMON) is pleased to announce at $10,000 grant award from the Suncoast Credit Union Foundation to support its Discovery Night program, a collaboration with local agencies that serve at-risk children within the social services system and children in the community that have experienced loss or trauma. This grant is particularly important to CMON as it allows the to continue this critical program that would otherwise not be possible.

Discovery Night is a private event designed to offer these children a sense of normalcy while

protecting their privacy. Through exploration of CMON’s interactive exhibits, the program encourages playful,

open-ended learning. This is crucial because, as research has shown, children’s development is

interconnected across domains: physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth work together to support

long-term success. For example, social competence and emotional regulation have been shown to underpin

cognitive skills, while physical activity fosters cognitive and social development. Providing children with

access to these enriching experiences can help close educational gaps and support their overall well-being.

By offering these children a safe and engaging learning environment, CMON ensures that they are not left

behind but are instead brought back into the educational fold. The program not only promotes their academic

and social development but also provides much-needed emotional relief and a sense of normalcy—an

experience that is vital for their psychological health. The benefits of play, as documented across species,

underscore its essential role in learning and development. In fact, play has been shown to be critical for

children’s growth and should be supported, particularly for those who may lack access to safe, playful

experiences.

By bridging the gap between educational play and the needs of vulnerable children, Discovery Night offers an

essential opportunity for children to grow, explore, and thrive. These evenings of exploration, provided at no

cost to the children or their chaperones, give them the skills, confidence, and emotional support they need to

build a brighter future—aligning directly with the Suncoast Credit Union Foundation’s mission to promote

education, health, and emotional well-being for all children.

Known for its playful themes and extraordinary experience, Night at the Museum and CMON are embracing all things Pop Art for this year’s iconic evening supporting CMON’s mission! Just like Pop Art added playfulness and joy to a stuffy art world, Night at the Museum challenges the traditions of a black-tie gala and will be sure to inspire and excite event attendees from start to finish.

NEW PUBLIX EXHIBIT TO OPEN AT GOLISANO CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF NAPLES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NAPLES, FL (November 12, 2024)- Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples (CMON) announces the collaboration with Publix Super Markets Charities to create a brand-new supermarket exhibit at CMON. While a few critical renovations have already been completed, this complete renovation of one of CMON’s classic and well-loved exhibit spaces, The Market, will take place later this year. The new Publix exhibit will provide a reimagined shopping experience built just for the museum’s little shoppers. Guests will be able to experience a play-based shopping experience, including Publix bakery, deli, seafood, produce, dairy, and frozen sections. Littles will love filling up their shopping carts from their grocery list, working at checkout just like a real cashier, and even creating their own Publix Subs, sushi rolls, and pizza! This hands-on exhibit provides children and their caregivers with a unique and engaging experience that encourages imaginative play and life-skill building in an environment many families experience together each week – the grocery store!

“The market at CMON has always been one of our most popular exhibits. So, it makes sense for our museum to collaborate with the most popular supermarket brand in Florida, and beyond—Publix,” said CMON CEO, Jonathan Foerster. “We are so grateful for Publix Super Markets Charities and the team of amazing professionals who jumped in to make building this new exhibit a pleasure. From checking off their grocery list to building their own Publix subs, CMON’s little shoppers are going to have an amazing time and learn a lot about food and nutrition along the way.”

The Publix Super Market exhibit at CMON will open to the public later this winter and will be included with museum admission once renovations are complete.

GOLISANO CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF NAPLES COLLABORATES WITH UNITED ARTS COLLIER AND VALERIE’S HOUSE FOR ART INSTALLATION

GOLISANO CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF NAPLES COLLABORATES WITH

UNITED ARTS COLLIER AND VALERIE’S HOUSE FOR ART INSTALLATION

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NAPLES, FL (August 22, 2024) – Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples (CMON) announces its partnership with Valerie‘s House and United Arts Collier (UAC) for an art installation featuring works of created by children in prekindergarten through high school who have experienced loss. The purpose of this project is to give these children a platform to express the hard feelings they deal with and to send a message that there is hope for the future and reason to be optimistic.

During eight painting sessions at CMON, taught by artist Tiani Rosado, Valerie’s House students were asked to explore their feelings regarding the loss they experienced using prompts like “what is a warm memory you have with your person?”, “what are some sad feelings you felt and / or are still feeling now that your person is no longer with you?”, and “what is something that gives you hope for the future?”

Beyond the prompts, children had creative freedom, they could choose to paint a scene showing a moment that stuck out to them or use colors and shapes for a more abstract effect. Each piece is personal to their individual experience yet was created while sitting next to other children who have experienced the loss of a family member.

According to Rosado, “(The) children seemed to find joy in the brushstrokes and blending of the paints. They used it as a form of journaling. I gave tips and tricks on how to best use the acrylic paints and brushes.” Rosado goes on to explain that while each student painted on a 12×16” canvas, she used a ribbon and tied each piece together to create long banners that represent the unity that Valerie’s House has reinforced by bringing these children together and giving them a safe space to share their stories.

Valerie’s House is so grateful for our community partnerships to provide for our children to express their grief through visual and symbolic means.” said Amy Strom at Valerie’s House. “Art and creativity play a vital role in the healing process after the loss of a loved one. This joint project offered a unique way for children who attend Valerie’s House a safe way to share their stories, feelings, and make emotional connections with others.”

This exhibition about grief, healing, and hope opened at CMON on August 15, 2024 and will run for a limited time. Admission to the museum is required.

Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples receives $1.5 million in state funding to build new early learning center

Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples receives $1.5 million in state funding to

build new early learning center

NAPLES, Florida (July 15, 2024) – Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples (CMON) is pleased to announce a $1.5million appropriation from the State of Florida to jumpstart the construction of a $3 million new early learning center on its North Collier Regional Park campus.

When Gov. Ron DeSantis signed Florida’s $116.5 billion budget in June it included the $1.5 million to help fund the creation of a new early learning center inside CMON’s walls. The new 6,000 sq ft center will serve 90 PreK3 and PreK4 students in a dedicated space in what is currently the administrative offices of the organization as well as some repurposed classroom

space.

“The demand for high-quality early learning opportunities is at a record high in our region,” said CMON CEO Jonathan Foerster. “At the same time we have seen a dozens of early learning centers close in the region since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. While our entry into this space won’t solve the problem on its own, we want to do our part to support the early learning needs of our community.”

CMON’s center, which is projected to open for the start of the 2026 school year, will provide opportunities across the economic spectrum, with partial and full scholarships available based on a family’s income related to the area median income.

The budget appropriation was championed by Florida Senate President Kathleen Passidomo and State Representative Lauren Melo, who sponsored in their respective chambers.

“This grant and the center wouldn’t be possible without the tremendous support of Pres. Passidomo and Rep. Melo,” Foerster said. “We are especially grateful to Pres. Passidomo for her leadership on this and her long-time support of the work we do at CMON. We are also thankful that Gov. DeSantis and his team saw the value in helping provide more early learning opportunities, to strengthen the future and allow parents to return to the workforce.”

The organization’s mission will continue to focus on providing a safe, exciting space for children and families to play, learn, and dream, and the addition of the early learning center is part of the museum’s strategy to be a premier resource in the community for families with infants through elementary school-aged children. Over the years CMON has tried several strategies to provide resources for older children, but under the leadership of Foerster and the board of directors, the focus is now to broaden services to the 10 and under age group.

“We have seen a growing number of children in our community in the past few years, and a robust growth in the birth rates locally,” said CMON Board Chair Laura Alexander. “CMON is uniquely positioned to serve children and families from all backgrounds to not only be ready for success in school, but also in success in life. The early learning center is a big step toward that goal.”

CMON still needs to raise an additional $1.5 million for the project, which it hopes will start construction in the summer of 2025. The organization retained MHK Architecture to design the project. For more information about supporting CMON’s early learning center, please contact CEO Jonathan Foerster at [email protected].# # #

International Renowned Artist Hunt Slonem Donates Art to Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples

International Renowned Artist Hunt Slonem Donates Art to Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples

NAPLES, FL — Internationally renowned artist Hunt Slonem donated an artwork titled “Totem Winter” to the Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples permanent collection. The work joins other Slonem pieces “Arlain Child on Albania Steps” and “Two Cockatoos” in the museum’s collection.

“My entire career as a painter traces back to my childhood, my formative years spent in Hawaii and Nicaragua,” Slonem said. “I hope that this gift, in some small way, inspires these children to create and imagine a more perfect world.”

In 2021, the museum exhibited a collection of Slonem’s works, which features playful Neo-Expressionist imagery often of butterflies, birds and bunnies. “Totem Winter” features his signature bunny motif on a colorful abstract background. Slonem’s art is in the collection of more than 50 major museums around the world from the Smithsonian Museum of American Art in Washington, DC to Fundacio Joan Miro in Barcelona, Spain, as well as the homes of countless private collectors.

The Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples is among a handful of children’s museums nationwide that boast a fine art collection. With more than 50 works by American artists depicting children and animals, the museum uses these works in various exhibitions throughout the year to inspire artistic appreciation and creativity in all its visitors.

“We are incredibly grateful to Hunt Slonem for his gift and the inspiration it will bring to so many children and adults who come to CMON,” said Jonathan Foerster, CEO of the museum. “We know that art and creative expression are among the most formative building blocks in the way children experience the world. Well before they can write or fully express their feelings through words, they draw their thoughts, feelings, hopes and dreams on every surface they can find.”

The museum will display this new piece, along with other works from the collection and beyond, in a Pop Art inspired exhibition slated to open in January 2025 that coincides with its annual Night at the Museum gala, which also takes inspiration from Pop Art.

Community rallies to support educational play in Southwest Florida

NAPLES, Florida (March 11, 2024) – On February 10, more than 350 generous Southwest Florida community members gathered in support of the Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples (CMON) for its annual gala event, Night at the Museum, raising more than $1.5 million in support of children and families in the community.

“We are beyond grateful to our community of supporters who continue to believe in CMON’s mission to be a place for children and families to play, learn, and dream together,” said CEO Jonathan Foerster. “It’s inspiring to see the generosity of Southwest Florida in action once again.”

All Aboard for Thomas & Friends™: Explore the Rails! Fun at Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples

All Aboard for Thomas & Friends™: Explore the Rails! Fun at Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples

Naples, FL (January 2024) – All aboard! The world’s most beloved #1 blue engine will roll into Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples (CMON) this spring for exciting fun and adventure. Thomas & Friends™: Explore the Rails!, an interactive exhibit created by Minnesota Children’s Museum and inspired by the popular children’s series now on Nick Jr, will steam into CMON Naples on January 27 through May 14.

Featuring the favorite engines and destinations from Thomas & Friends™, the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) –focused exhibit seeks to engage children, ages 2 through 7, and families in foundational skills that foster STEM literacy through playful learning experiences. The exhibit incorporates foundational STEM practices that encourage thinking mathematically, making comparisons, experimenting to solve problems using a variety of methods and tools, thinking creatively, and reflecting on actions and results.

Visitors to the exhibit will be delighted as they find themselves surrounded by the Island of Sodor’s iconic locations: Knapford Station, Sodor Steamworks, and much more. In the exhibit, children help Thomas and his friends solve a variety of challenges, from a simple sorting and shape identification activity to more complex engineering obstacles, such as completing a train track using track pieces with different levels of elevation. As children encounter new challenges and test their abilities, the smiling faces of Thomas, Percy, Victor, and others are there to offer encouragement and remind children how “really useful” they all are.

Inside the Exhibit:

  • Climb into Thomas’ cab and explore the engine’s inner workings. Flip levers and investigate other movable parts that trigger train noises such as braking, whistles, and steam.
  • Fix Percy’s wobbly wheel by removing and replacing parts and experimenting to find a combination of wheels, rods, and bolts that work.
  • Explore the favorite Island of Sodor destinations including: Tidmouth Sheds, Brendam Docks and the Sodor Search & Rescue Station on an oversized Thomas Wooden Railway train table.
  • Work with old and new friends loading luggage, livestock, and other freight into the coaches of two train cars.
  • Collaborate with others to get Percy moving by loading coal into his coal box and filling his tank with water from a water tower.
  • Suit up as the conductor to exchange money and sell tickets to other visitors taking a ride on the train.
  • Wander through a Thomas & Friends retrospective featuring model engines from the original live action series produced in London, copies of the original drawings and manuscripts from the Rev. W. Awdry, the creator of Thomas & Friends, and a collection of memorabilia documenting the history and evolution of Thomas & Friends through books, television, and toys.

The Thomas & Friends exhibit was designed and developed by Minnesota Children’s Museum in partnership with Mattel, Inc. Fisher-Price, the leading manufacturer of infant and preschool toys, is the presenting sponsor for the exhibit.
