Is your 6-10-year-old artist eager for an engaging and elevated art experience? Look no further than CMON’s new Art Workshops to explore new artists, mediums, techniques, materials, and genres. All classes will challenge the creator with more focused and detailed creations from impressionism to modern art. Each class will include a take-home frameable piece of art. Participants can sign-up for one, a few, or all of the workshops!
2025 Themes:
- January 17-18, 2025: “Beauty of Nature” Create your own 3D art using natural materials inspired by Florida’s own Artist Ran Adler.
- January 24-25, 2025: “Double Happiness” Get inspired by the beautiful and intricate Chinese cut paper art and create your own Chinese paper cutting in time for Chinese New Year.
- January 31-February 1, 2025: “Draw like Leonardo!” Learn realistic drawing techniques used by artist Leonardo da Vinci. Create a still life drawing on fine artists paper.
- February 14-15, 2025: “Rhythm Painting like Ta-coumba” Learn the unique painting technique of celebrated African American Artist Ta-coumba Aiken and create your own rhythm painting on canvas board.
- February 21-22, 2025: “Fun with Printmaking!” Get inspired by esteemed printmaker Dr. Margaret Burroughs and create your own foam print block and multiple prints using a brayer, water soluble inks, and fine art paper.
- February 28-March 1, 2025 : “Graffiti Art” We will be lining the walls with cardboard and practicing graffiti techniques using non-toxic water based spray paints. We will be looking at contemporary artists such as Basquiat and Banksy to create large-scale one of a kind projects.
- March 7-8, 2025 : “Botanical Art Sun Prints” Get inspired by Artist and Botanist Anna Atkins and create beautiful blue botanical art with the early photographic cyanotype process.
- March 21-22, 2025 : “Draw from life!” Artists create realistic work best drawing from real life. Come and have an authentic art class experience drawing from a live tortoise!
- March 28-29, 2025 : “Paint like Alma!” Learn the unique painting technique of Artist Alma Thomas and create your own large colorful dash painting on canvas board.
- April 4-5, 2025: “Designing with Print Blocks” Get inspired by traditional Indian block printed fabrics and create your own reusable bag.
- April 11-12, 2025: “Paint and Move!” Learn the art of Japanese large brush calligraphy and use your whole body to create your own calligraphy art.
- April 25, 2025: “Peaceful Mandalas” Get inspired by the ancient Hindu and Budist art form of mandalas and find peace in the symmetry of your own colorful sun-catching mandala.
- May 2-3, 2025: “Sumi-e Brush Ink Animals” Create playful animals with a bamboo brush and ink all while learning the Japanese art of Sumi-e.
- May 9-10, 2025: “Gyotaku Fish Printing” Create beautiful traditional Gyotaku fish prints using educational replicas and water soluble inks.
- May 16-17, 2025 : “Shibori Indigo tie and dye” Create a fun indigo tie-dye t-shirt to wear while learning the cultural history behind indigo and traditional patterns.
