The Produce Market is a realistic, child-sized market full of the bounty of Florida as well as a number of familiar and ethnic boxed and prepared foods. Shopping carts can be used to collect purchases. In addition, bilingual, laminated shopping lists complete with pictures of food items help shoppers make decisions about their purchases. A checkout counter has a real cash register and scanner that can be used to tally purchases. Not only can the market provide children with a wonderful opportunity for role play and social interaction, but the sorting, grouping, weighing and counting they do almost instinctively while they shopping facilitates a strong foundation for early math learning.
